Digital X-Ray

Cheshire Crossing Animal Hospital provides in-house, digital pet X-rays for dogs and cats in Columbus, Ohio, and the surrounding area.

Should the need ever arise for X-rays, our highly qualified technicians are able to accommodate your pet immediately right here in the clinic. Our digital X-ray system allows the doctors to view the highly-detailed radiographs immediately, without having to wait for developing and processing.

X-Rays are not just for Looking at Bones

Many people think that X-rays are only used to find skeletal issues like broken bones, but they are actually beneficial in identifying a variety of pet health conditions. X-rays can be used to diagnose:

  • Hip Dysplasia

  • Bladder Stones

  • Arthritis

  • Foreign Bodies

  • Internal Organs

  • Dental Health

Because we use digital X-rays, the images are clearer due to their higher resolution. We are also able to zoom in on specific areas to achieve even greater clarity.

Our doctors are able to interpret films and put together a treatment plan for your pet. If a consultation with a specialist is necessary, the x-rays are sent out and read by a board certified radiologist. Results and plan of action are usually available within 24 hours.

To ensure that our pet patients receive the care that they need as soon as possible, our system is linked to The Ohio State Veterinary Medical Center and MedVet to allow for the most efficient transfer of radiographs to these referral centers.

When Sedation is Helpful

Pets need to be adequately restrained and positioned to obtain quality X-ray images. Although digital X-rays are a safe and painless diagnostic tool, it is often preferred to sedate your pet to reduce any movement, anxiety and stress. Sedation is imperative to control any pain associated with moving a pet with a painful disorder such as a bone fracture or arthritis.
