Bachelor Degree in Biology. He graduated with his Doctorate in Veterinary
Medicine from The Ohio State University in 1997.
Dr. Ballard met and
married Dr. Leah Carpenter in 1996 while finishing school. Three
kids, three dogs, and six cats later, he and Dr. Carpenter have designed
and built the only AAHA accredited veterinary hospital in the Delaware
area. Their goal is to have a “country-style” practice
at which personal, friendly service, a relaxed atmosphere, and outstanding
medicine and surgery are applied every day.
Dr. Ballard’s areas
of interest include internal medicine, cardiology, dermatology,
dentistry, and laser surgery. He is an adjunct faculty member of The
OSU College of Veterinary Medicine and is on the Admissions Committee
for the college. Dr. Ballard is past president of both the Columbus
Academy of Veterinary Medicine and the Miami Valley Veterinary Medical
Association. He also serves on the Pet Animal Committee for the Midwest
Veterinary Conference and speaks publicly for Pfizer Animal Health.
In his spare time, he enjoys working outside, landscaping, biking,
reading, and travelling to the nearest ocean with his family.
Dr. Ballard
is interested in teaching and is an off-site instructor for The Ohio
State University College of Veterinary Medicine senior elective rotation.
He likes to encourage the use of common sense and problem solving
in his students, and will often quiz them in exam rooms.
Dr. Leah Carpenter grew up in Lancaster, Ohio on a
farm with horses, cattle, sheep, goats, cats and dogs. She spent a
great deal of her time working with horses up to and throughout college.
She went to Ohio University and earned a Bachelor Degree in English,
with an emphasis in creative writing in 1990. In 1994, she received
her Masters Degree in English. Dr. Carpenter went on to teach at Wright
State University for a year before deciding to return to school to
pursue a degree in veterinary medicine.
In 1999, Dr. Carpenter earned
her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University.
She particularly enjoys feline medicine, dermatology and animal behavior.
It has been a long time dream of hers to have her own veterinary
clinic that is much like the family-oriented practice that she grew
up with. That dream came true in June of 2007, when Cheshire Crossing
Animal Hospital opened its doors.
Dr. Carpenter is married to Dr. Adam
Ballard and they have three children - Charlie, Ella, and Jimmy.

eventually became a part of Johnson & Johnson (the baby powder

back home to Ohio, where she was a representative for a veterinary
sales company. She now spends time helping out at CCAH.

her family. She and her husband Ron live in Radnor.
Suzanne Kauf graduated from the University of Cincinnati
with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in English. Her professional

opening.
Suzanne and her husband Dwight have two sons Casey and
Cooper, a dog, Riley, a puppy, Bear and a cat, Niki. Her youngest
son is 9 months old, so he takes up a lot of her time, but her eight
year old is a huge help. When she’s not at work, Suzanne enjoys
reading, running and walks with Riley and her sons.
Rachel Johnson was
born in Vancouver, Washington. She recently graduated from Olentangy

story, click here (Microsoft Word doc).
Lucy came to us in June of 2008 and
has been Felix's best friend ever since. She enjoys lurking about the
clinic, exploring new things, sitting with Stacey and snoozing
in the office.
At Cheshire Crossing Animal Hospital, the doctors and
staff consider dental health to be a top priority. A thorough examination
of the mouth with emphasis on the teeth and gums is an integral part of
every pet’s physical exam.
Disease of the gum tissue, known as periodontal disease, affects 85% of
adult dogs and cats. Left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to pain,
bad breath, and tooth loss. Over time, chronic bacterial infection of the
mouth can lead to disease in other parts of the body such as the heart
and kidneys.
We all know that caring for our own teeth involves frequent brushing,
flossing, and rinsing. And while we may have the very best...read more
